Invisalign vs. traditional braces: what's right for you?
Patients ask us this almost every week, usually right after asking if it's too late to straighten their teeth as an adult. (It's almost never too late.)
What Invisalign does well
Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually shift your teeth. Patients like it because:
- It's nearly invisible in daily life
- You can remove it to eat, brush, and floss normally
- Check-ins are typically shorter and less frequent
It works best for mild-to-moderate crowding, spacing, and bite issues.
What traditional braces do well
Braces are fixed to your teeth for the full treatment — which sounds inconvenient, but it's exactly why they handle more complex cases:
- They can correct significant crowding, rotation, and bite problems
- There's no removable piece to lose, forget, or lose discipline with
- Treatment timelines are often more predictable for complex cases
Cost and time, honestly
Both options land in a similar price range at our practice, and treatment length depends more on your specific case than which option you pick — most patients are done in 12–24 months either way.
How we help you decide
At your consultation, we take a 3D scan of your bite and walk through both options side by side — what each would involve, roughly how long it would take, and what it would cost. No pressure either direction; some patients even ask us to just tell them what we'd pick for our own kids. We will.
